From Governor Cuomo’s latest briefing:

OVERVIEW 

  • 1.8% statewide positivity rate
  • 2,900 hospitalizations, down 183; Governor noted lowest since November.
  • 691 ICU patients
  • 425 intubations
  • 38 fatalities

  • Western NY: 3.5%
  • Finger Lakes: 2.8%
  • Mid-Hudson: 2.1%
  • Long Island: 2.0%
  • NYC: 1.9%
  • North Country: 1.8%
  • Capital Region: 1.5%
  • Mohawk Valley: 1.5%
  • Central NY: 1.4%
  • Southern Tier: 0.7%
  • 7-day statewide average: 1.98% 

VACCINATIONS

  • NEW: pop-up vaccination site tomorrow and Saturday at the Greater Buffalo United Accountable Healthcare Network.
  • Site will be open to all but focused on vaccinating youths.
  • Cuomo added that the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) will provide 1,000 free bus vouchers to get youths to the vaccination site.
  • High schools should also get involved in getting students vaccinated.
  • The Buffalo Marathon will run this year on June 26 and 27. 

FROM THE Q&A 

On Mayor de Blasio's comments that NYC will be fully open by July: 

  • Governor said he wants the state opened as quickly as possible, but needs to be managed on statewide basis, based on COVID data. 

On what metrics the state will use to determine a full reopening: 

  • Governor said the state is reopening as aggressively as possible, but still needs to consider positivity, rate, hospitalizations, and vaccinations.
  • Governor added he expects a full reopening sooner than later.
  • Governor said main guidance will come from CDC on masks, social distancing. 

Follow-up as to whether the state will follow CDC guidance if it declares the pandemic over: 

  • Governor said he does not believe this will happen, citing the current outbreak in India. 

On capacity for sports stadiums: 

  • State is considering increasing capacity, particularly for those who are vaccinated.
