FROM THE GOVERNOR'S BRIEFING IN NEW YORK CITY:

OVERVIEW

  • .71 positive rate.
  • NYS is averaging 1% rate of infection or under since June.
  • 534 hospitalizations yesterday.
  • 6 deaths reported over the last 24 hours. 

REOPENING

  • Over the weekend, the SLA and State Police did compliance checks, with over 3,000 violations. 

GYMS

  • Gyms can open as soon as August 24 at 33% capacity. Masks are mandatory.
  • HVAC systems must meet the guidelines.
  • Localities must open gyms by September 2.
  • Localities need to inspect gyms before they open OR within two weeks of opening.
  • Localities determine whether the gym will have indoor classes.
  • Local elected officials will make the decision.
  • Local health departments must inspect prior to opening or within two weeks of opening.  

SCHOOLS

  • The Governor reiterated that parents and teachers will decide ultimately on reopening.
  • If there is a COVID spread, the state will close the school.
