From Governor Cuomo’s briefing in Albany:

OVERVIEW

  • Day 278.
  • Statewide rate with micro-clusters: 4.8%.
  • 200,000 tests conducted.
  • 61 deaths.
  • 4,063 hospitalizations (up 139).
  • 783 ICU patients (up 41).
  • 377 intubations (up 4).
  • 4.12% statewide rate on 7-day average.

FEDERAL

  • Congress is considering passage of bill to aid state and local governments and would provide $908 billion in state and local aid.
  • Cuomo called this a "down payment", and would be a short-term bill until March.
  • The Governor urged congress to pass this prior to the holidays.

VACCINE

  • 75% of the population needs to be vaccinated for it be effective.
  • Currently, 50% of population do not trust the vaccine.
  • Cuomo said vaccine distribution will happen in the coming weeks.
  • Governor Cuomo urged vaccination compliance.
  • Vaccine will start first with nursing homes and healthcare staff.
  • A second vaccination will be needed 21 days later. The vaccine is not considered effective until second dosage is administered.
