Latest Updates  

  • Looking ahead to the flu season, Governor Cuomo put aside $30 million available to counties to set up influenza vaccine programs.
  • The Governor Cuomo is hopeful that New Jersey will not be added to the travel quarantine list.
  • Casinos are not as essential and are at a higher risk of non-compliance, as opposed to malls, which have re-opened.
  • The US Open Golf Championship will take place without fans.
  • DMV has approved distance learning for Drivers Education.
  • The State Liquor Authority is issuing violations, mostly in New York City.   

Financial Impact  

  • Governor Cuomo said that the state has a $14 billion shortfall this year and will have a $16 billion deficit in the next fiscal year.
  • The MTA is anticipating a $12 billion deficit.
  • The Port Authority has a $3 billion deficit. The Governor stated that if additional federal funding is not secured, the upgrades at John F. Kennedy International Airport will be impacted.
  • The Governor said that state cannot solve its fiscal issues by taxing New York’s “ultra-wealthy.”
  • Governor Cuomo will postpone the Environmental Projects Bond initiative for a year.  

Federal  

  • Governor Cuomo is sending a letter to Congress advocating for state and local government relief to be included in any stimulus packages.
  • The Governor said that the bill proposed by the Senate dictates that states must fully fund education, even if the federal government does not provide enough funding to bridge the gap. In order to make such a gap, there would have to be budget cuts to local governments and hospitals.
