LATEST NEWS & INFORMATION - 7/8/20

From Governor Cuomo’s press conference in NYC: 

OVERVIEW

  • 841 hospitalizations.
  • 97 intubations (first time since March 16 that this number has been under 100).
  • 11 deaths reported over the last 24 hours.
  • 57,585 tests performed yesterday with a 1.2% positive.

REOPENING

  • Long Island enters Phase 4 today.
  • 36 states are seeing an increase in COVID cases.
  • Hospitalizations are going up across the country.
  • Florida stated they may need assistance from NYS.
  • New Jersey, Connecticut and New York are adding three more states to the travel advisory: Delaware, Kansas, Oklahoma.
  • Airlines will hand out forms to passengers accordingly to collect information.
  • All county fairs will be cancelled until further notice.

MALLS/INDOOR SHOPPING

  • Beginning Friday, July 10 malls can open in Phase IV regions so long as they have enhanced HVAC filtration systems and measures in place.
  • MERV 13 (no less than MERV 11).
  • Ventilation protocols: increased outdoor air, reduced air recirculation, longer system run times, frequent filter checks.

SCHOOLS

  • NYS is consulting with all stakeholders on guidance to reopen schools. NYS will issue finalized guidance on July 13.
  • On July 31, local school districts will submit their plans to the state.
  • On August 1-7 the State will announce whether schools will reopen.
  • School openings are a State decision.

MASKS

  • 45,00 more Americans could die without a mask order.
  • Governor Cuomo urged President Trump to sign an Executive Order requiring masks.

Executive Order 202.48

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Relates to Criminal Procedure Law.
  • Extends for another 30 days directives contained in Executive Order 202.28 relating only to commercial tenants or commercial mortgagor.
  • Video lottery gaming, casino gaming, gyms/fitness centers, indoor shopping malls directives remain in effect until an Executive Order opening them is issued.
  • The directive contained in Executive Order 202.41 that discontinued the reductions and restrictions on in-person workforce at non-essential businesses or entities in Phase 3 industries or entities, as determined by DOH, in eligible regions, is modified only to the extent that indoor food services and dining continue to be prohibited in NYC.
