LATEST NEWS & INFORMATION - 9/24/20   

From Governor Cuomo’s briefing in New York City:  

OVERVIEW 

  • 500 hospitalizations.
  • 2 deaths were reported over the last 24 hours.
  • 1.02 % infection rate.
  • We are seeing alarming spikes in other states and countries.  

NEW CHALLENGES 

  • “Chapter 2” in Managing COVID
    -Schools Reopening
    -Vaccine?
    -Flu season is coming.  

SCHOOLS 

  • Schools are congregate settings by definition; the virus travels in these settings.
  • We must monitor schools carefully.
  • COVID Report Card for every district in the state will be posted including the following date:
    - Positive cases by date of students and staff by school and school district.
    - Number of students and staff on site.
    - Number of on-site students and staff who test positive.
    - Daily reporting by schools, updated every 24 hours.  

VACCINE 

  • NYS will put together a Clinical Advisory Taskforce of leading scientists, doctors, and health experts who will review every vaccine authorized by the federal government for distribution, and will advise NYS on their safety and effectiveness.
  • The vaccine plan will include a distribution network, data and IT infrastructure, public education, and procurement.
  • The goal is to be the first COVID free state.  

The Governor’s Office also released the following Executive Order:

  • Extends E.O.s 202.36, 37, 202.46,47, 202.54, 202.58, 202.59 through October 23, 2020.
